Museo de Ciencias Naturales
Natural history fans can discover a wealth of information about Central America’s fauna at the Natural History Museum, located southwest of Sabana Grande Park (laid out on land formerly used by the old airport). The collection in Carretera 167, in the old Colegio La Salle, includes displays of the country’s mammals, reptiles, birds and insects (the butterflies are especially interesting). A visit to the museum is a must for anyone planning to explore the country’s national parks.
The animals at the museum can be observed and studied without fear of their running or flying away. The museum also has paleontological and archeological exhibits which illustrate Costa Rica’s prehistoric development.
