
Honopu Bay
Honopu Bay, on the leeward west coast, is a rocky fishing ground frequented by local fishermen. It’s subject to rough seas despite being on the lee side of the island. There is a seabird sanctuary here as well as the islets of Nanahoa. According to Hawaiian legend, they were once a man named Nanahoa and his wife, who were turned into stone pillars for violating a taboo (kapu).
